China Fast Figure: Cloth Output is Down

Cloth output is down in some significant areas

Cloth output YoY growth is down and in some areas decreased by alarming amounts. Chemical fiber, i.e. polyester and the like, decreased 37%. Blended cotton decreased the least amount seeing a YoY decrease of -9%. Cotton decreased percent change -21%. It is worth point out the difference between cloth and fabric. Cloth is fabric used for garments, and as a result generally have a different production standard. All cloth is fabric, but not all fabric is cloth. The downturn in chemical fiber output could have significant impacts on the garment outputs, particularly during a trade war.
