China Targets Soybeans, but Imports Could Tell a Different Story

Soybeans come center stage in the US-China trade war.

China recently took out a full page ad in the Des Moines Register to basically troll the Trump administration. One of the key points in the 4 page ad spread was soybeans and how China was sourcing them elsewhere. But are they? Taking a look at the figure below, soybean imports to China have increased and soybeans exports have decreased. This is according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Even though China may very be getting more soybeans elsewhere, we have yet to see a drop in imports from the United States.
