Today via Twitter, Dr. Steve Perry announced that tomorrow would be his last day as Principal at Capital Preparatory Magnet School a school that he helped found.
Dr. Steve Perry is the founder and Principal of one the most successful schools in the country, Capital Preparatory Magnet School. The school is located in Hartford, Connecticut, and has been labeled by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top schools in the country. The school was also featured on CNN’s Black in America series.
The Magnet School has sent 100% of its predominantly low-income, minority, first generation high school graduates to four-year colleges every year since its first class graduated in 2006 and Dr. Steve Perry is the leader to thank. He is known also for his strong words opposing teacher unions and his “no excuse” approach to educating our children.
As an Educator myself and with the current state of education in America, this is truly shocking. In the midst of sending out many tweets, Dr. Perry never states the reason he is leaving or where he is going. As this situation unfolds I am hoping that Dr. Perry is planning to take over a larger failing school district or mimic Capital Preparatory Magnet School in another area.
