Gabrielle Union In The Process Of Opening High-Class Sneaker Store For Women
By Ryan Velez
Actress Gabrielle Union has always been well-known for her sense of style, and The Grio reports that she plans to take this to the next level, by opening up a high-class sneaker store for women along with her friend Faith Rein Haslem.
Haslem first spilled the news in an interview with The Coveteur. She is a fellow basketball wife as well, married to Dwyane Wade’s former Miami Heat teammate Udonis Haslem.
“Gabrielle Union and I are working on a women’s shoe store,” Faith Rein Haslem told The Coveteur. “It’s in the very early works, but we’re definitely taking steps in planning. Baby steps, but that’s definitely the goal.” While this store may still be in its infancy planning-wise, Haslem already has some ideas for potential concepts.
“It’s going to be a concept store/women’s sneaker store, but with a fashion angle,” she said. “It’s not necessarily about having Jordans per se, it’s going to be more the fashion-y thing. I think nice sneakers are a mainstay at this point.” Haslem is very much a connoisseur of fashion sneakers in her own right. The Coveteur’s article included several pictures of both her and her husband’s massive sneaker collections.
The duo also already have a smart name for their new venture: Borrowed From The Boys.
“Our goal is to have a nice selection,” Haslem added. “Miami is ready for that, I think … I don’t know when this is going to happen, but I’ll keep you updated.” The timing for this couldn’t be better. Footwear and apparel company Puma signed big contracts with Rihanna and Kylie Jenner to expand their reach in the women’s sneaker market. Their investment has paid off, with a growth of 10% for sales in that segment.
Puma CEO Bjorn Gulden even called out the women’s market as an area for growth in a statement to Yahoo News. “We now see that our women initiatives with products and marketing around Rihanna and Kylie Jenner are working very well,” he mentioned. With any luck, Haslem and Union will be able to tap into this success.
