Getting Influence Online—How To Do It?
By Ryan Velez
When people are looking to learn about a new field, topic, or start choosing what they want to use for a service or product, generally the first thing they do is go online to learn more. This means that more and more people in business are looking to try and increase their presence online to try and come across as an authority as well as increase their visibility to potential customers and clients. This is important, but there is a right and wrong way to get influence online. Black Enterprise recently put together an article covering some tips you can use right away to start increasing your influence in your area of choice online.
One of the best things you can do to stay relevant is stay posted to current events in your field, customizing the content you put out and social media posts to match what people are looking for. The good news is that there are more and more resources than ever to help people keep track of these topics and other metrics.
One of the largest platforms for this is Twitter, becoming a popular source of breaking news and trending topics around the world. Yes, people use it to communicate various things to each other, but take a moment to think about it. Major networks like CNN and NBC are including tweets from users in their coverage of various events. Twitter is officially a vital source, and it makes sense that you would want to leverage it to get more influence.
As a result, you may want to start putting out current tweets to try and get them included in someone else’s story. This is immediate social proof, right along with large group, celebrity, or influencer endorsements, testimonials, trusted online reviews, and certifications. How so? A tweet will instantly give like-minded people a window to the rest of your Twitter, letting you position yourself as an expert and get people to notice your brand.
Ways to keep on top of these topics are items like Google Trends, which provides a trending news in the last 24 hours. You can also filter by topic, category, and country. You can also find the top topics people are searching for on Google as well as YouTube. In the same vein, Google Alerts sends appropriate info right to your email. You may want to get started with Google Alerts anyway, as it can send you information whenever your name or business is mentioned online.
