Many people are starting up their own business, and freelancing is one of the biggest attractions. Succeeding as a freelancer, however, requires a blend of several traits and tools to survive. With a little patience and consistency, you’ll soon realize that you can quickly become a force to be reckoned with.
Below are a few tips you can employ to get started as a freelancer:
Identify your target market – Whichever field you would like to make forays into, make sure you identify your ideal customer. There are questions you’ll need to ask yourself beyond simple demographics. What are some of the problems your clients are facing that you can help them solve? What are some of the places your customers visit online? Do they have the needed skills or knowledge to use your services, or is there something you need to do to help them enjoy your services? What are some of the underlying benefits of your products in comparison to other services available?
Develop a clear business structure – To go into any business, there are some things you’ll need to get started. You’ll need to have a clear plan, a defined structure of how things are going to work and some resources to get you rolling. Are you planning to freelance part time or full time? Before putting everything into place, time-management might be a challenge. Getting your paperwork in order, doing invoices, following up for clients, and a host of other relevant things might prove to be time consuming, but once you’ve fully mastered the art, efficiency will come. Some things you need to look into are tax systems, pricing, working hours per week, and workflow. Things that you can take advantage of to make your work easier are Google Drive, WAVE software, and Asana, which helps with managing your freelance assignments. In marketing, some other services that you can use are CoSchedule for blog posts, MailChimp for email services, and Google Analytics for figuring out how to attract traffic to your website.
Build a portfolio – Most people would like to clearly see an organized presentation of products or services you offer, the things you’ve accomplished, and your growth. A portfolio is a great way for you to shine. Ensure that your portfolio contains your best works and that they’re represented in high quality photos. Gather some of the testimonials that you’ve received from your customers and include them as well.
To expand your reach, you can take advantage of social media or a blog, which you can easily create using WordPress or Squarespace platforms. In your blog, link back to your portfolio so that people who would like to enjoy such services can get to see the services you offer.
