Floyd Mayweather Puts Car Up For Sale—One Of Only Two In The World
By Ryan Velez
Celebrity Net Worth reports that Floyd Mayweather is putting one of his cars up for sale—which admittedly, at first glance, doesn’t sound like much news. However, when one gets a closer look, the story takes on a new level of interest. First of all, why would “Money” Mayweather need to sell his car? Second, the car itself: a Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita that is one of only two in the world.
Mayweather’s car collection is well known, so it’s rare that he would feel the need to part with one. He originally purchased this car in 2015, paying $4.8 million. While this is quite the price tag, the car is quite a prize as well. Its performance specs include 1,018 horsepower, a top speed exceeding 254 miles per hour, and clocking 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds.
With all this in mind, it begs the question: what could Mayweather be looking to do that he would want to sell such an impressive and rare vehicle? For one thing, it’s not because he is broke and desperate. At the close of 2016, Forbes reported that his net worth was a respectable $340 million, ranking him tied at 34 with Jessica Alba on their list of the 40 richest entrepreneurs under 40 (he turned 40 this February). This was his first time on their annual list.
One rumor is that the famed boxer may be looking to buy a yacht, one with a $20 million dollar price tag. In that case, selling the car may be a way to try and finance this latest luxury, which is about as responsible as you can get when you’re talking about buying yachts. Another thing to consider is that while it’s hard to believe, there may be another car out there that has his eye. While it’s hard to imagine what could be more top-of-the-line than the Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita, one has to imagine there’s always something out there. Perhaps another reason is more capricious: Mayweather has had his fun with the car and rather than let it sit in the garage, he wants to make some money off it. He may be onto something. On top of the car’s own rights, there may be an appeal among the elite to own something that a world-class boxer once had.
For now, we can only speculate on Mayweather’s plans for the car and the money from its eventual sale. More than likely, we won’t know his final intention until the car is sold. At that point, keep your eyes peeled for his latest opulent purchase.
