Pharrell gets sued by the producers of his Youtube show

Reported by Liku Zelleke

As a host of the show he has done interviews with renown artists and celebrities like Spike Lee, Usher, Tony Hawk, Henry Rollins and Leonard Nimoy.

ARTST TLK has become an online hit and in its first season, that includes 12 episodes, has managed to attract over 1.7 million views so far.

Now, the producer of ARTST TLK is allegedly suing Williams for backing out of the show after he had signed a deal to appear exclusively on “The Voice” later this year. Last March, an announcement was made stating that Williams would be joining the seventh season of the NBC hit show along with Gwen Stefani. Williams also said that Alicia Keys would serve as his mentor while he was on the show.

TMZ reported that the so-far unnamed producer of ARTST TLK is asking for a payment of $1 million that he says he put into it. Williams’ representative, the site claims, has rejected the lawsuit and said, “This is complete nonsense. It’s unfortunate when you try to help a friend and they wind up trying to take advantage of you.”

As for his other works planned for this year, the “Happy” singer is scheduled to perform on September 4th outside of CenturyLink Field in Seattle when the National Football League kicks off its 95th season.

Staying in sports, well sort of, Williams has also loaned his voice to NBA 2K15 – a new sequel in the world’s best selling basketball video game. He has chosen 27 of his songs for the game’s soundtrack which is expected to be released on October 7th.

The new season of “The Voice” is due to commence September 22nd. Williams and Stefani will be co-hosting the show with Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

Financial Juneteenth lessons from this story:

1) Online video and Youtube is becoming quite a viable way to earn money. Those who create strong channels with thousands of subscribers are able to make a living from their content. It is also a great way to promote your brand for your business.

2) If you make deals with friends, always sign a contract. It doesn’t put a strain on your friendship to ask them to sign a deal, the strain comes when you DON’T have everything in writing.
