How Will Packer Started at the Bottom and Has Now Made $700 Million
By Dr. Sinclair Grey III
Hard work pays off. If you’re willing to put in the work, meet the right people, and follow your dreams, all things are possible. Unfortunately, too many people get frustrated in the beginning of a new venture and because of that frustration, they quit before they ever truly begin. That can’t happen, if you want to taste success.
Case in point – Will Packer had been grinding for years in the film industry and now he’s reaping the fruits of his labor. Being in the business for over 20 years, Packer’s films have grossed over $700 million. Packer and business partner Rod Hardy founded Rainforest Films in 1994. So far, seven of their films have debut as number one at the box office.
In 2000, Rainforest Films released Trois which grossed $1.1 million. The film cost $250,000 to make. Not bad for their first taste of success. After the success of Trios, Parker and Rainforest Films hit it big with the movie Stomp The Yard which hit number one. “Packer’s approach to filmmaking isn’t unconventional or unusual; he emphasizes creating low cost, high profit films featuring primarily Black talent. He’s continued to distill this formula, perfecting it to exceptional potency. He’s become the definition of the quintessential film producer, forging relationships with big stars like Idris Elba, Ice Cube and Kevin Hart and producing multiple films in which they have starred,” according to Atlanta Blackstar.
Other films that are credited to Packer are: Obsessed, Think Like A Man, Think Like A Man Too, The Wedding Ringer, No Good Deed, Takers, and Ride Along.
Parker and Rainforest Films just inked a two-year deal with Universal TV.
A graduate of Florida A&M University with a degree in electrical engineering, Packer learned the business from the bottom up.
The success of Packer is a testimony to what hard work and planting the right seeds will do to one’s career.
