Gun Control Sentiment Shifts Dramatically

Regardless of which side of the gun control debate you believe in, there is an unmistakable shift in sentiment.

Here are a few Tweets that express the sentiment change. The first Tweet is the most important one.

Bye Bye Boomers

Like it or not, boomers are not going to be in control forever. In fact, we will soon be gone.

We will be replaced by generations that see things radically different about race, religion, abortion, housing, cars, the ownership society, and about guns.

My Opinion

Those fighting gun control are on the political losing end of the debate.

I can easily argue the gun-control debate from either side. But It's pointless.

I am telling you "What Is". More gun controls are coming.

Mike "Mish" Shedlock.

Typical useless fucking ignorant leftist assholes. Banning "assault weapons" and high capacity magazines will have ZERO effect on the murder rate. Already been there done that under the corrupt murderous Clintons. Justice department said it had no effect and the ban was allowed to expire. Although I do believe that the terror attack in Oklahoma City was in part instigated by that ban along with a boat load of other things that set the idiot off. Nevertheless ALL rifles murders in the US per year are under 300 which would include the AR 15 type rifles. For comparison over 1500 people are murdered per year by knives and about 600 are murdered by hammers. This is just a protest by assholes that don't know a damn thing. Banning something because you don't need it to hunt is further ignorance. Should we ban all things we don't need? Look at Chiraq, it has the highest murder rate in the USA and the strictest gun control laws. Look at France where terrorists slaughtered hundreds with AK 47's which are completely illegal throughout Europe. I remember the statement by Obamanation who stated just prior to that attack that countries with strict gun control laws don't have mass murders like we do. Liberal leftist never let facts get in the way of forming an opinion. I am getting sick of this bullshit.

BTW these murder statistics are provided by the FBI. I am going to say despite the bad PR they have been getting, these figures are accurate.

It is so sad to see the trust these youths have in the ability of government to limit the evil passions of men. It ought to be glaringly obvious that the power of laws will only restrain the actions of people who are lawful.

Cbb

Its a LIE that assault weapons have zero effect and Justice department and FBI is in bed with NRA supporters, they LIE about all statistics related with guns. your point is assault weapons should not be banned, what is the difference between an assault weapon and a RPG ? if assault weapons are allowed then why not allow RPG ? The answer is simple, they are all same, designed to kill people in mass. In my opinion all rifles should be banned no exception, it increases the range to kill, killers has to come close to the target and can easily get caught, this will discourage all mass shooters.

Did anyone every notice how those on the losing end of political arguments are the first to use four letter words in place of rational pulsation? The word "fuck" is so overused it has lost it's power to shock except for those who have no other means to voice their arguments.

easytrader

No Cbb you are not paying attention. This has already been tried and it simply does not work. And comparing rifles to RPG's is ridiculous and you know it. The FBI does not lie about gun statistics. Have you forgotten they want to see us disarmed? If they were going to lie about the stats then those stats would greatly favor gun control but they do not. A rifle, unless it is a very beginners' single shot bolt action .22 is simply a rifle, not an "assault" weapon. That is the nomeclature adopted by the politicians and bankers in their attempt to instill fear in people and consider something to be something that it is not. Additionally, far more people are killed by knives and handguns than rifles.

It is undoubtedly true that sentiment is changing over time because of the constant propaganda from the government to the brainwashed younger generation which appears to be gravitating toward deep socialism or communism. You had best hope we don't experience an EMP event in the near future or you will be crying over the fact that you supported the push by government to rid us of rifles that help you to stay alive as you defend your family against hundreds or thousands of others if the power goes out and stays out. The sad truth is without those rifles you won't last 30 days.

When either the power goes out or they come for your guns a computer science degree won't do squat.

This is not a "sea change". It's been going on forever. The uninformed taking advantage of teenagers. Nothing will change...nor should it. The Second Amendment is very clear.

Tony_CA
Tony_CA

Mish, I can't believe you so easily fall for all this bs. This is clearly orchestrated. There will no dramatic change to gun laws. mark my words. As for all these marches, it todays world they mean nothing. The Republican party would be completely finished if they abandon the progun community. Look at the allies for Independence in Catalan. Nothing changed in fact the Spanish government is actively arresting Catalan politicians.

Mattbeau
Mattbeau

I agree with Mish on 99% of his opinions. I'm assuming he is an atheist, INTJ, Libertarian, rational human like I am. We comprise about 3% of the population. Mish, unfortunately, thinks the people in power are incapable of atrocities because he underestimates their idiocy and capacity for evil. He thinks they are like us. They are not. Mish complains about Illinois politicians, taxes, corruption, etc yet he still lives there. If you cannot even be bothered to switch states, then you will never be the kind of person who will meet force with force when it is needed. That's fine.

Mattbeau
Mattbeau

But don't deny the rest of us the tools needed to do he job. If you question the power of a small group of armed people, I suggest you look up the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. It may open your eyes. At least be honest with your assessment of history.

easytrader
easytrader

I figure that Mish will tell us if he is any of those things should he feel it necessary to do so, but he clearly does not strike me as someone who has not figured out the prevalent greed, corruption, criminality and potential for pure evil that exists within our own government, especially as it is on display quite readily, especially for anyone who pays attention to how we really treat other countries who do not tow the line that our elites and major corporations desire.

We will be governed from the same age group that eats Tide pods.

Tony_CA

Mish, your statement regarding changes in generation perception is total non-sense. The fact is the boomers will continue to run things for another 15 years. As a generation Xer, I'm not exactly happy about.

easytrader
easytrader

Whether or not he decides to switch states is probably a good deal more complex than our assumptions might suggest. As to armed small groups of people, how about Waco? You can't just go around cherry-picking your history. Besides, humans essentially make decisions based upon emotion and only later attempt to rationalize those decisions with reason and logic. The truth is, the older generations (and I am in that group) will soon be losing out to the votes of the younger generations. It is coming and there is little you can do about that.

Mattbeau
Mattbeau

Switching states is complex? I left Illinois in 2003...and my job was a bit more detailed than "blogging from my computer". I stand by my statement.

easytrader
easytrader

It may be for others. You make a lot of assumptions about other people without asking them any questions.

Mattbeau
Mattbeau

Again...for the amount of ink Mish spills crapping on Illinois politicians (rightfully so) he has done ZERO to change his situation. Ergo, that lessens his argument...IMHO. I take him far less seriously because of his inaction. Again: if you can't even move a few hundred miles to make your case, your case is weak. Sorry. It's true.

In your mind it is and I am sure that suits you just fine, so be it.

I meant, why would Mish leave Illinois. I'm sure they will take the lead in gun confiscation.

Mattbeau
Mattbeau

False. You don't "win" in America by the number of votes. That would be a pure Democracy. We live in a Constitutional Republic. So, until the 20-something idiots go through the proper channels and amend the Second Amendment...nothing will change.

Tony_CA
Tony_CA

I wonder what would have happened if Catalan people had gun rights similar to the US. I doubt they would be openly arresting the politicians who voted for succession

hmk

BTW has there ever been any media hype over the right to life rallies in DC that are attended by 500k + people. These same left wing fascist morons are perfectly good with 800000 abortions per year much less late term abortions. The hypocrisy is deafening.

flubber
flubber

I do not own a gun and I have no intention of ever owning one, but I support the 2nd Amendment that gives the rights to an individual to bear arms. Should kids have to go to school worried about being shot? NO. Should law abiding adult citizens have to give up their guns? NO. Should semi-automatic weapons with high capacity magazines be banned? I really don't know. If any restrictive laws are enacted, it may possibly prevent some of these senseless tragedies or at the very least, limit the casualties in one of these attacks in the future.

AWC
AWC

And all this time I thought it was the Second Amendment that guaranteed all the others. But, sure, a more and more totalitarian government should disarm the public. Kinda greases the skids, so to speak.

flubber

The thing is there are so many weapons out there now that any laws enacted now would be akin to closing the barn door after all of the horses have left. I'm not sure if many individuals realize the amount of firearms in private hands and those firearms would include the ubiquitous AR-15. Many of my friends own better than a dozen weapons with most having handguns, shotguns, and rifles that would include the AR-15 platform. They will have hundreds if not thousands of rounds for each weapon. If you consider all of the hundreds of millions of guns in the hands of private individuals at this time, I have no idea if you could ever get them to relinquish them.

Mattbeau
Mattbeau

You can't legally make them relinquish anything. See: takings clause

wootendw

When guns are outlawed, outlaws won't have to worry about raping girls or burglarizing private homes (as frequently happens to my cousin in London). 'Our' government will go full-on fascist and mass murder Americans instead of Libyans. This country will be worth no more than any other.

hmk

The biggest cause of death in the 20th century was democide. Over 250 million people were murdered by their own government. More than all the wars combined. So to the left wing idiots like the moron who doesn't believe the FBI stats guy control does work.

One isn’t a conservative until one has something to conserve. When one has a child instead of being one, a pistol in the nightstand becomes a mom’s best friend. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Based on your calls on stocks, gold, and Trump, I will take the under.
You didn't understand the movement behind Trump, because you don't understand the silent majority, which honors and respects the Constitution. I will tell you what's coming if anyone tries to ban our right to protect ourselves from criminals and crazies (which encompasses govt), there will be a civil war.

All this seems orchestrated by partisan politics. How has gun control suddenly turned into a democrat meme? What ever happened to the Southern Democrats? Oh, forgot, we have a midterm election coming up.

well the people have spoken. We need similar protests ;maybe for privacy rights, crony capitalism/socialism and financial repression to name a few. Gun sales will escalate in anticipation of further control measures.

Bussing in thousands of idiot kids who want to miss class and be seen with George Clooney does not constitute a "dramatic shift". I really wish Mish would steer clear of gun control. He's clearly on the wrong side. Stick to monetary policy and Fed bashing... things you are 100% right about.
