According to worldometer, the death rate for closed cases is 11%, 11383 deaths, 91533 recovered. For the active cases, many of which are newly identified, the percentage of serious/critical cases is 5%, 7765 compared with 164503 currently mild. I'm sure the death rate will drop over time, as more people get tested, but for those who keep saying that the flu is worse and this is being blown out of proportion; the flu has a death rate of 0.1%.

sadly a lot of people don't get it. I took my dog to the dog run today. it was nice out. two one couple decided to hang out by the entrance and block it making social distancing all but impossible after they moved another family who doesn't even have a dog decided today would be a good day to bring their kids to the dog run to play with everyone else's dog. when he asked me if he could pet my dog, i said not a good idea considering we all need to keep out distance. he got offended an insisted he's healthy.

20-25% of my building has left. probably 1 out of 5 people outside has a mask on and then you have the people who don't seem to care.

There is an economic cost to shutting down business in a State, and it is huge. Is temporarily protecting people from a virus with a death rate in single digits worth destroying the economy? In leftist states the answer is clearly yes.

The Baby Boomer generation is being characteristically selfish. Members of that generation partied hard, sampled every drug imaginable, repeatedly had sex with people they just met and knew nothing about, and ran the national debt to unimaginable levels. Yet now they blame the younger generations for the spread of the Coronavirus, saying they are ‘irresponsible’ and ‘self-absorbed’. How ridiculous.

If Boomers want to avoid Coronavirus, THEY need to self-quarantine, not expect those under 50 to give up their enjoyment of life so that the old can continue to take advantage of them. The Boomers need to hide away in THEIR homes, allowing the rest of the country to live and work as they please.

at this point a federal order makes more sense. all we're seeing is people packing up and leaving when the area they live in locks down

Well i was pondering today. What would be more destructive to the economy. Shutting down like we are now or the chaos of a million dead and everyone panicking and sick.

Some hospitals in NY are in the beginning stages of getting overrun. Can't post links here, but I am sure any of the NY papers will have some info.

Please stay home.

Politicians are so extroverted they will break their own rules about social disatancing and "face a term limit".

Also this is a wet dream for all the nanny state dems and repubs. The precedent we have granted here is an effective end to our remaining freedom.

Who would have thought it would take a pandemic to slow down the emigration of people fleeing Illinois to other states?
