Immovable Forces Meets Trump's Will: What's the Wall Resolution?

House Democrats will pass a bill ending the gov't shutdown but without wall funding. Will the Senate take it up?

Nancy Pelosi is expected to regain House Speaker on Thursday. At that time, Democrats Lay Out Plan to Reopen Government, but it will not contain wall funding.

House Democrats said they will try to reopen the government when they take control of the chamber on Thursday with a spending package aimed at isolating the fight over border-wall funding.

Democrats, who had been debating what package of spending bills to bring to the floor this week, settled on Monday on a plan to pass six full-year spending bills that would fund most of the government through September 2019. They also included a short-term patch extending current funding through Feb. 8 for the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the border, in the legislation unveiled Monday evening.

The Democrats’ goal is to end the partial government shutdown, now in its 10th day, while focusing the debate on the border-wall funding in February. Mrs. Pelosi has been in frequent communication with Mr. Schumer during the negotiations, according to aides.

Wheels and Walls Never Get Better

Deadlocked Positions

  • Trump will not sign a bill unless it funds the wall.
  • House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will not sponsor a bill that funds the wall
  • Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says the “Senate is not going to send something to the President that he won’t sign.”

What's the Wall Resolution?

  1. Democrats agree to wall funding or partial funding enough to satisfy Trump.
  2. Senate caves and passes something that Trump angrily signs.
  3. Senate caves, Trump does not sign, Congress overrides veto.
  4. Trump builds the wall without funding.

Can the Democratics pursue impeachment while the government is shut down?

Question: Does the wall in Israel decrease terrorist attacks on civilians or not? If we can design, build and monitor a wall that is good enough to stop illegal immigration, human and drug trafficking, why would we not want to do it?

I'm dismayed at the lack of professionalism and process on Trump's part. Normally one starts with a problem , seeks experts opinion and from that crafts legislation. Trump started with a solution and then said this solves the problem. There's been review process. It smacks of hubris that this is somehow the most cost effective solution. Trump would have been coming at this from a much better place if he had started with an unbiased commission or security review.

The goal of Israel's wall is to stop an armed attack. The goal of America's wall is to stop immigration.

its not the same thing. Israel's wall is an attempt to stop stabbings and short range missiles. The goal was not immigration. If it was Israel already had a system for that.

I honestly don't understand why you wouldnt want a wall? There's another caravan forming right now from what I've read. We have too many people now. If you're against it then they can all squat in your area. Open borders are for idiots.

If the Republicans had chosen to pursue funding for the wall first instead of a tax plan that gave billions back to the people who don't need it, the money would already be there for the wall.,,, which speaks volumes about the Republicans priorities!!

I am quite certain that our President is doing very well with the new tax code and corporations were already posting record profits. I am not jealous, just disgusted by the hypocrisy.

well maybe the hubris will bring some serious immigration reform to the table.

Trump is always offering Simple solutions to complex problems. The fact that a wall will cost a lot of money and not have any noticeable effect on the problem doesn’t matter. Simple solutions appeal to simple people like Trump and many of his supporters. It’s the same with Tariffs. Supposedly they will MAGA and solve America’s trade deficit. The reality is that they will hurt many US businesses and consumers, while the trade deficit actually grows. But don’t bother confusing Trump or his supporters with facts. They can’t comprehend them.

The U.S.A. can totally reverse all trade deficits if the prevailing hourly wage was $2.00, but I don't wish to give the Republican's any ideas.

Someone tell Trump that the solution is a Star Trek type force field along the border as a wall. He should get his space force working on it pronto!

i don't see a wall as some panacea that solves border issues and i do see racism in the debate but a sizable minority wants it. and the democrats want something else. there's a deal to be had here. its called wall for DACA but in today's politics compromise is a four letter word. I don't see Trump and his base willing to negotiate. Democrats don't see a reason to cave for nothing in return. Holding pay from federal workers and being willing to release it is not negotiation, that's hostage taking

KidHorn

Why not stage a false flag attack on the border and then have Trump issue an executive order to build the wall? Pour some chlorine near the border and hose down some kids.

house republicans passed a funding bill that has money for the wall. it is sitting in the senate because of chucky's filibuster. so, pelosi doesn't need to pass anything, that meets her requirement. the senate can vote on the current bill, which trump will sign, so that meets schummer's requirement of not sending something to the president that he won't sign.

problem solved.
