The novice thinks: Oh the stock went up, so I should have still held OR, oh it went down, so I'm glad I sold that this…

But the professional thinks: I know I've got this outsized return today. No one knows tomorrow whether I FOR SURE will...therefore, no matter whether the stock goes up in the future or down in the future, it's my job to ensure returns and to manage risks by dodging potentially giving back very large % gains. I'll never purposely catch bottoms or tops and so, in investing, some money is ALWAYS left on the table...and that's okay because that's not the goal anyway.
