Bret Swanson, Expert Series regular and author of the American Enterprise Institute daily "Tech Policy Updates" emphasizes an on going theme here at View from the Peak, the push for greater tech regulation. In this piece, he focuses on Senate Al Franken and his push to broaden the idea of net neutrality and to encompass the regulation of mega cap tech. Bret has been concerned about this sort of overreach since 2009 and it appears to be gaining some momentum. To quote Senator Franklin from the Guardian last week:
"As tech giants become a new kind of internet gatekeeper, I believe the same basic principles of net neutrality should apply here: no one company should have the power to pick and choose which content reaches consumers and which doesn’t. And Facebook, Google, and Amazon — like ISPs — should be “neutral” in their treatment of the flow of lawful information and commerce on their platforms".
