In the latest edition of "Trade Talks", Chad Bown discusses the GATT accord which was signed 70 years ago and provided a post WWII framework for multi-lateral trade arrangements and protocols. The treaty was set-up to try to avoid the anti-trade policies that exacerbated the Great Depression. An interesting history lessons and, in this time when global trade is challenged, is a reminder of the benefits of an open trading system.
